Through the learning materials you will hear from Academics, Education Based Practitioners, Employability Consultants and Career Practitioners working with corporate organisations, outplacement firms, the military and government.
All CICA endorsed courses must meet strict criteria on the content to be covered, aligned to the Professional Standards for Career Practitioners. All post graduate courses must also meet ASQA accreditation standards before they can be offered to students. Whilst every institution teaching the Graduate Certificate of Career Development Practice will take a different approach, they are all required to meet CICA and ASQA standards.
As it is completely self paced, individual’s will learn at different speeds. It is suggested that learners will spend between 15 to 20 hours per module (5 modules per subject) however the specific time will vary by individual based on a range of factors.
You do not need to purchase any text books to complete the course. All required reference materials are provided, along with links to publicly available reference material.
Assessments will be marked and returned within 10 working days.
Upon successful completion of the course you will receive your academic transcript and a testamur. This information is typically needed when applying for membership of a professional association and registration with CICA.

Yes it will. The Graduate Certificate of Career Development Practice is ASQA acredited qualification, also endorsed by CICA (The Career Industry Council of Australia). Should you wish to pursue further higher education study this qualification will be recognised by universities. Please note the granting of subject credits is always at the discretion of the university to which you are applying.
CICA endorsement ensures that the course curriculum and learning experience aligns to the requirements of the Professional Standards. By completing and endorsed Graduate Certificate of Career Development Practice you will have built the knowledge and skills to apply CICA’s core competencies and Code of Ethics to your work. You will also be able to apply for CICA registration, opening up a greater range of employment opportunities.
Price varies across different qualifications however is not a key indicator of quality. You will not be required to complete assessments with other students. All assessments are to be completed and submitted individually. You will be required to find some consenting volunteer ‘clients’ for some assessments (these can be friends, family or colleagues if you don’ t have access to real clients). You can engage with other learners via our online Forums.
Placement is not a requirement of this course, according to training.gov.au. You may find your learning experience is enriched if you able to apply your learning directly in your current workplace, but this is not a pre-requisite. The course will provide you with opportunities to engage with a simulated environment.

Depending on your specific level of experience and other previous study, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) which offers credit for individual subjects. The details regarding RPL are outlined on our home page and you can also request a call if you would like to discuss your RPL eligibility with one of our Student Support team.
You do not need any additional qualifications, although you will need to apply for CICA registration. Some employers may require specific professional association membership and or other specific certifications to operate within a particular workplace, including Police and Working with Children Checks.
No you don’t. As the subject is self paced, you can complete the qualification as quickly as you can finish learning materials and assessments or take as much time as required. You can start each subject at the time that suits you. We recommend that you aim to complete the Graduate Certificate of Career Development Practice within 12 months to support continuity of learning and to enable you to engage in the post qualification work opportunities, however you are in complete control of when you study and how long you take to complete the course.
Once you have enrolled in the course and commenced study both a student support officer and assessor will be available to assist you with enquiries on both your study journey and your learning.
Firstly, prior to submitting your documents and evidence in support of a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) request by subject, you will be able to self assess against the detailed requirements outlined. Upon submission, if additional detail is required, the assessor will highlight the specific areas and request subsequent detail. In the event, that RPL is not able to be granted, the specific subject can be undertaken by paying the remaining 50% of a subject fee to access the learning.
The Graduate Certificate of Career Development Practice is an accredited ASQA qualification, endorsed by CICA andrecognised in Australia as a formal post graduate qualification. Depending on the particular country, the qualification may be automatically recognised or an accreditation process may be required.
The job prospects are very strong for qualified Career Practitioners with opportunities to work in multiple industries including: Education, Employment Services, Mental Health, Professional Support, Community Services, Career Transition and within Private Counselling Practice.
A large number of Career Practitioner roles in education institutions, government and corporate settings require the completion of a Graduate Certificate of Career Development Practice as part of their selection criteria. To become a Professional Member of most Associations this qualification is also required and it is also a prerequisite for registration with CICA.
Yes they can or you will receive all the required tax invoice and receipt information to support any form of reimbursement.
There may be subsidies or financial support available to students, based on their individual circumstances, that can be utilised for further study. This however needs to investigated by students on an individual basis.
There are two types of assessment for each subject:
- Online knowledge quizzes after each module. You can attempt these as many times as you need to. These check for your understanding. They are automatically marked.
- Written Practical Assessments – there are two of these per subject. These are scaffolded and you can submit them online. They are practical in nature and reinforce your application of theories, strategies and techniques. Your Assessor will mark your assessments and provide feedback to help you meet competency.
